Betty Lunz

1927 - 2017

Of Wiarton, peacefully, on August 8th, 2017 in her 91st year, at Chapman House Hospice in Owen Sound. Beloved mother of Hildegard O'Connell, and her husband Dan, of Kitchener; and Michael Lunz and his wife Bonnie, of Wiarton. Cherished Oma to Vicki Howie (Neil), Dan O’Connell Jr (Melodie), Lisa Murtha (Patrick), Erika Hodgson (Kevin), Alexandra Lunz (Jordan Duncan), and Nickolaus Lunz. Great-Oma to Daniel, Marley, Mikayla, and Dylan O'Connell; Zachary and Evan Howie; and Jack, Logan, and Thomas Murtha. Predeceased by her beloved husband Michael; her precious granddaughter Dorian Lunz; her parents Johann and Margarete Muller; her brother Georg Muller; and her sister Margarete Zink. Sadly missed by her sister Marie Reiss, of Germany; lifelong friends Marianne and Adolf Stengel, and Marga Woerrlein of Owen Sound, nieces & nephews in Germany, and her many friends in Wiarton. Betty emigrated from Bavaria, Germany in 1953, along with her husband and daughter, to Wiarton. They intended to work here for only 5 years, but instead remained for the rest of their lives. Although they dearly missed the company of their large families in Germany, they made new friends here, many of whom were like family, celebrating holidays and special occasions together for decades. Betty trained in Germany as a Seamstress, and was well known for her dressmaking skills, as well as for her hospitality, warmth, generosity, and her gardening. Betty's kitchen was the gathering place for many family and social events. She was loyal to her friends, and immensely proud of her family. She worked for many years at Caframo in Wiarton. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. The family is grateful for the loving care Betty received at the Chapman House Hospice. Family invite friends to gather with them at the Thomas C. Whitcroft Peninsula Chapel, 272 Berford St., Wiarton (519) 534-5341 on Friday August 11th, 2017 for visitation from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A service to celebrate Betty’s life will be conducted from St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 441 Brown St., Wiarton on Saturday August 12th at 11am. Interment in Bayview Cemetery, Wiarton. Memorial Donations to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or Chapman House Hospice would be greatly appreciated. Condolences may be expressed online at
