1942 - 2017

Peacefully hiking through his life-long playground at Spry Lake on Wednesday April 5, 2017. Douglas Harold Arnold at the age of 74 years. Doug was about to celebrate his 55 wedding anniversary with his beloved wife and best friend Barbara (nee McKnight). Devoted father of Barry and his wife Cheryl, Larry and his wife Debby, Lori and her husband Doug McVicar, all of Wiarton, and Patti and her husband Mike Daniels, of Kitchener. Cherished grandfather of Kinsey (partner Jordan), Chad (friend Ashley), Kameron, Cory, Taylor, and Katie. Proud brother of Ted (Gwen), of Clavering, Harvey, of Meaford, Everett (Edith), of Oliphant; Vern (Fay), of Spry Lake, Carolyn (Joe Porter), and Donna, of Wiarton, and Kelven (Tracey), of Purple Valley; and brother-in-law of Isobel Arnold, of Wiarton, Marilyn Cole, of Wiarton, and Joyce McKnight, of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Sadly missed by his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. Also missed by his special friend, Princess, his devoted cat. Predeceased by his parents, Wallace and Gladys; brothers, William, Jim, Don, and Terry; brother-in-law Brock Cole; and sister-in-law Mary. Doug was a well known and trusted mechanic, and avid outdoorsman whose love of nature and animals was legendary. Doug’s family wish to express their sincere appreciation to everyone involved during the time Doug was missing; OPP Search and Rescue, Canine Unit, Marine Unit, Aerial Search and Rescue, Volunteer Search and Rescue, and others too numerous to mention. Family invite friends to gather with them for a casual come and go gathering to celebrate Doug’s life at the Thomas C. Whitcroft Peninsula Chapel, 272 Berford St., Wiarton (519) 534-5341 on Saturday April 15, 2017 from 1-4 PM.
