1931 - 2019

Duncan “Dunc” Fordyce Smart - It is with tremendously heavy hearts that the family announces Dunc’s passing on the 30th of July, 2019 at Chapman House, Owen Sound, in his 88th year. Those who mourn his loss are his wife Helen (nee Dunlop) to whom he was married to for 67 years. Also survived by three children: Bruce (Cherine), Beth Anne (Jim Johnston) and Krista (Shane Maddock). Missing him will be his six grandchildren: Terry Smart (Carrie-Ann), Craig Smart (Amanda), Sarah (Brodie Harte), Melanie Johnston (partner Darren Wisdom), Quinton Maddock and Spencer Maddock Proud; and loving great-grandpa to six great grandchildren: Cole, Taylor, Bailey, Brooklyn, Sophia and Ava Drew. Survived by brothers Andy Smart (Linda), Skip Smart (Freida), Bill Smart (Dianne), Donald Smart (Annette); and sisters Jeanette (Jack Mallard) and Margaret (Skip Williams); sisters-in-law Sandra Smart, Marilew Smart, Myrna Dunlop, and Shirley Kernohan; and brother-in-law Eric Barnes. Duncan will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Duncan is predeceased by his parents Duncan, (Scotty) and Elizabeth (Betty) Smart, as well as his in-laws Irene and Mel Dunlop; siblings, Betty Moore and husband Sam, Sam Smart and wife Pat, Joyce Jones and husband Frank, Donelda Richardson and husband Howard, George Smart, and Danny Smart; brothers-in-law David Dunlop, Barry Dunlop, Bob Kernohan, and Bill Mathews; and sisters-in-law Bonnie Barnes and Marion Matthews. A service to celebrate Dunc’s life will be conducted from the Thomas C. Whitcroft Peninsula Chapel, 272 Berford St., Wiarton (519) 534-5341 on Friday August 2, 2019 at 1 o’clock, with visitation 2 hours prior. Interment in Bayview Cemetery.
