BURGESS-MCGUIRE, Lily Joan R.N.A. (nee MILLS) - September 30, 1928 - June 18, 2020
Our beloved mother, Joan passed away peacefully in Wiarton, Ontario on June 18 in her 92nd year. Joan was born in London, Ontario on September 30, 1928 to John and Laura Mills (nee Nickle). She is survived by her husband George McGuire; her three sons, Stephen (Rose), Scott, and Jeff Burgess (Debbie Morgan); four grandchildren, Stephanie Burgess-Josol (Richard), Jennifer Burgess (Tobin Hessels), Amy Morgan, and Daniel Burgess; two great-grandchildren, Logan Josol, and Audrey Hessels; step-children Diane Jackson (Wayne) of Dresden, Ontario, Mary Louise Layton (Doug) of Mitchell, Ontario, Debbie Ennewies (Dale) and Terry McGuire (Alice) of Walton, Ontario, and Robert McGuire (Vickey) of Moncton, Ontario; seventeen step-grandchildren; twenty-four step-great-grandchildren; nieces, Geri Eva (Bob), Donna Klaczek (Bob); brother-in-law, Monty Bennett; and nephews Paul, and John Bennett (Donna). Sadly missed by her nursing and travelling companions, Elizabeth Scott, and Elaine Piper. Joan is predeceased by her parents, John and Laura Mills; sister, Eileen Bennett; and her first husband, James Jackson Burgess. It was at the Mills’ “Kilgour Cottage” at Oliphant, Ontario that Joan and Jim met. Married at Fairlawn United Church in Toronto, the newlyweds resided in Wiarton briefly before returning to Toronto. Joan began her long nursing career in 1963 at Scarborough, and subsequently Northwestern and York Finch General hospitals. Joan and James retired to Wiarton where he passed away in 2000. A service to celebrate Joan’s life will be announced at a later date. Donations to BPHS Foundation Wiarton would be appreciated and may be made through the Thomas C.
