Marie Brown

1945 - 2019

Bessie ‘Marie’ Brown (nee Thomas) – of South Bruce Peninsula, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 20th, 2019 at BPHS - Wiarton Hospital at the age 73. Born in Red Bay, to Frank and Bessie Thomas (nee Burk), she was the third oldest of five children; Bill, Gayle, Victor and Colleen. She too, spent much of her life in the Wiarton area. She was raised at Red Bay at Wildwood Lodge, graduating high school in Wiarton. She married David Brown after spending a few years in Toronto managing a doctor’s office, until she returned home and bought a farm at Clavering which would envelope her for years to come with the birth of many lambs and calves, and the home to many happy animals. In the nineties, Marie spent much of time caring for her mom and dad at Red Bay and was there to support mom when dad died there at the house. She also took up residence on Mary St. in Wiarton, after owing a home on George St. for many years. Friends are invited to a Memorial Gathering to celebrate Marie’s life from the Thomas C. Whitcroft Peninsula Chapel, 272 Berford St., Wiarton (519) 534-5341 on Thursday July 25, 2019 from 2-4 PM, with a Time of Sharing at 3 o’clock. Donations to the BPHS Foundation (Wiarton) would be appreciated. Condolences may be expressed online at

Marie had a love for animals that far surpassed most anyone. At any time, during her life at the farm, one could find a wee lamb scampering in her kitchen or in a bed by the stove as she struggled to make sure they survived from birth. She loved her family, and as a thoughtful aunt, sister or friend, her generosity knew no boundaries. Through the years, she always had a loyal dog at her side who was so smart and well behaved that may a story could be told about them. This past year Marie lost Diego, who was so smart and so faithful he made her life a joy. Time now for her to run free in fields with him.
