Roger Partridge Smith - born in Middlesex, England, October 31, 1930, passed away peacefully in his sleep at Wiarton Hospital, July 2, 2016. Loving husband for sixty years and best friend of Jill Smith. Loving father and father-in-law of David and Julie; Rachael and Andrew; Andrew and Kelly; and Timothy and Heidi. Proud and loving grandfather of Taylor and Alexandra; Grace and Emma; Coleman and Gabrielle; and Olivia, Julian and Simon. Roger attended Brentwood School and London University, before he and Jill married and came to Canada in 1957. Through a 35-year career as a civil engineer with Canadian Pacific Railway, Roger and Jill lived in Sudbury, London, Toronto, Port Credit, Winnipeg and Vancouver, making many friends across the country. Roger was a talented and passionate singer who partook in choral music from age 8 through 85. In a life filled with friends and laughter, Roger was a fan of wordplay and a keen crossword puzzler, an avid bridge player, a gamesman, a jigsaw puzzle enthusiast, a music lover, a sailor, a birder, supporter of Abbeyfield homes, and a lover of all things railway. Our deep appreciation goes to Dr. Nelvia Van Dorp and the entire staff at the Wiarton Hospital for their outstanding care and loving support of Roger and Jill. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to the BPHS Wiarton and may be made through the Thomas C. Whitcroft Funeral Home & Chapel, Sauble Beach (519) 422-0041.
