Ted Johnston

1935 - 2020

Edward “Ted” Louis Johnston - August 1, 1935 ~ March 5, 2020. Treasured husband, father, Poppa, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully in the Neyaashiinigmiing home that he was born in, surrounded by his family. Ted, a man of many talents served in RCAF 1953 – 1973 and remained an active veteran in his community and member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 208. He was awarded the Special Service Medal, the Peacekeeping Medal, the United Nations Yemen Observer Mission Medal, and the Canadian Decoration Medal. Ted worked as a heavy equipment operator for Ontario Hydro 1979 – 1989 and presided as a Justice of the Peace on the bench of the Ontario Court of Justice 1989 until his retirement. Ted was renowned as a well accomplished handy man who seldom met a challenge that his clever mind and his handy jack knife could not conquer. Loving husband to Phyllis (nee MacKnight). Father of Judy (Peter), Darlene (Frank), Peggy (Jerry), and Edie (James). Forever remembered by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Shawn (Paula), Brea, Hunter, Ryleigh; Jennifer (Mike); Ninnie; Brett (Jake), Jackson, Madison; Keenan (Tanya); Sophie (Grace); Michelle (Eric);Ted (Brittany), Olive; Emily; Alex; Ruth. Survived by his brother Bill (Marianne); sister Bernice; brothers-in-law Ray (Beryl) MacKnight; Joe (Joyce) MacKnight, Elmer MacDonald, and Les Halman; and sister-in-law Sandra MacKnight. Predeceased by his parents Alex & Beatrice Johnston; Phyllis’ parents Cecil & Irma MacKnight; siblings Orville, Dolly, Ross, Keitha, Charles, Iola, and Eric; and Phyllis’ siblings Marie Crawford, Anna MacDonald, Winnifred Halman, and Leonard MacKnight. Sadly missed by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held from the Cape Croker Community Centre, Neyaashiinigmiing on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 from 7-9 PM, and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A funeral Mass will be conducted from St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Neyaashiinigmiing on Thursday morning at 11 o’clock. Cremation to follow. Arrangements entrusted to the Thomas C.
