1935 - 2021

Of Allenford, at Grey Bruce Health Services – Southampton on Saturday August 7, 2021. The former Margaret Verniece McLay at the age of 85 years. Beloved wife and best friend of Bob for over 62 years. Dear mother of Brad, and his wife Anne-Marie, of Brampton. Cherished grandmother of Kyle (fiancée Danielle LeBlanc), of Matheson, and Rachel (partner Ryan Comrie), of Oakville. Sister of Adelle (Ron Ceaser), of Miller Lake, Merv McLay (Mary), of Wyoming, ON, and Barry McLay (Sue), of Meaford; and sister-in-law of Marie McLay, of Milton, Joan McLay, of Wyoming, and Wayne Richardson (Linda), of Allenford. Sadly missed by her many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Ken and Ruby; brothers, Bob McLay, Chuck McLay (Reta), and Milt McLay; and brother-in-law, Clayt Richardson (Carol). Family was Verniece’s number one priority, whatever was needed Verniece and Bob were there. Verniece always made room for whomever walked through the door, whether it was a meal, or a place to lay your head. She was famous for her big family meals, baked goods, and preserves, if you went away from the table hungry…it was your own fault. A dedicated employee of the Royal Bank for 39 years. Verniece’s family wish to express their gratitude to Dr. Julie Ramkumar and the staff of the Southampton Hospital, especially nurse Lindsay, for the wonderful care they provided. A Memorial Gathering to celebrate Verniece’s life will take place from the Thomas C. Whitcroft Peninsula Chapel, 272 Berford St., Wiarton (519) 534-5341 on Wednesday August 11, 2021 from1-3 PM. All those wishing to attend must register in advance by completing the RSVP registration on Verniece’s page on the funeral home website. In accordance with Covid-19 regulations, all those attending are required to wear a mask and social distance. Attendance is limited.
