Barb Scott

1933 - 2021

Barbara “Barb” Scott – of Wiarton, peacefully at Gateway Haven on Thursday June 17, 2021. The former Barbara Jean Clarke in her 88th year. Devoted and cherished mother of seven; Steven (Debbie), Dianne, John (Rosemary), Jeff (Jenn), James (Kim), son-in-law Mel Urbshott and daughter-in-law Shannon. Much-loved grandma to Dan, Shane, Arryn, Jason, Melanie, Melissa, Tyler, Cali, Stephanie, Corey and Kyle; and great-grandma of thirteen. Remembered fondly by her nieces, nephews, and friends. Joined now with loved ones predeceased; parents, William T. Clarke and Lillian (Hardy); caring life-long husband, Ralph Clayton; brother Albert Clarke (Marjorie Amos); beloved children, Judy Urbshott and Kevin Scott; precious grandson, Trevor Travis; infant great-grandsons, Maddox Rothernel and Alister Urbshott. Barb was hardworking, loving, inclusive and independent, an integral part of her family, community, and a bastion of local heritage. Born and raised on the Clarke heritage homestead — one of the first pioneered farms on the Bruce Peninsula — she steadfastly maintained the family home, keeping an open door and a warm oven for friends and family alike. Well educated, she had a devoted career as schoolteacher before marrying Clayton, a sailor of the Great Lakes, and raising seven children. She served a term as Deputy Reeve for Lindsay Township and dedicated herself to numerous community organizations throughout her multifaceted life. She needn’t ever travel far from home to live a large and full life and leave a legacy behind in all the hearts she touched. She is dearly missed. Barb’s family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Gateway Haven, Dr. VanDorp and Dr. Thomas for their kindness and excellent care they provided. Celebrations of her life among family to take place later this year. Donations to the Friends of Gateway, or to the Bruce Peninsula Hospitals Foundation would be appreciated.
