Benjamin “Ben” Hadcock - of Red Bay passed peacefully on January 19th, 2023, at age 90. Ben was a well-known "character" in Wiarton. His dusty red ford pickup was always parked at the Foodland, where he enjoyed a hot cup of Timmies and nostalgic music with Joyce. He loved his hand-built cedar-strip canoe, fishing in Sky Lake and his vegetable garden. His pastimes included playing cards, singing, golf, dancing (and collecting bags of leaves). Ben's favourite memories were meeting his beautiful wife Joyce at the Barton Community Centre in Hamilton and picking cherries with his mother Ivy and his aunts as a child. He loved hockey and enjoyed coaching with his sons in Grimsby, Burlington and the Ancaster Double Rinks. Before retiring, Ben worked for over 20 years as a maintenance man at the Hamilton Harbour Commission. He is survived by his sons Wayne Hadcock (Lorraine), James Hadcock (Wendy), and Bruce Hadcock ( Rebecca); his granddaughters/caregivers Ann Marie Hadcock and Jessie Lorraine (Ryan Mahn); grandson Ryan Hadcock; his cousin Audrey McLeod; brother George; sister Millie; and sister-in-law Georgina Clarkson. Ben is predeceased by his wife Joyce (nee Scriven); his brothers Dave, Bob, Paul (the Hammer), and sister, Jenny, all of Hamilton. Special thanks to the Wiarton Day Way Program which brought him much friendship and joy, the Lion’s Head Clinic staff for years of good care, and his friends at the Anglican Church in Lions Head. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Ben's life is planned for the spring. Arrangements entrusted to the Thomas C. Whitcroft Funeral Home & Chapel, Sauble Beach (519) 422-0041. Donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. Condolences may be expressed online at www.whitcroftfuneralhome.com
